What started as a retirement project, has quickly turned into a thriving family business. Established in 1999 Petra Olive Oil Estate is committed to producing premium grade olive oil and offers visitors fantastic chalet accommodation in Yalingup.
Petra Olive Oil Shed Door
Just a quick hop from Yallingup and Dunsborough gets you to Petra’s Shed Door and Tasting Shop. The Estate is set on expansive grounds, surrounded by olive groves, sloping hills, damns and plenty of kangaroos in the midst.
Follow the signs to Petra’s from Caves Road, and you’ll find a perfect spot to linger for a few hours or even a few days.
The Shed Door and Tasting Room offers a wide range of gourmet products with ample opportunity to try the goodies as you go. Take your pick from the diverse range of premium grade olive oils, vinegar, jams, cosmetic products and gifts.
Don’t leave it at that though, make use of the lovely surroundings and enjoy the $3 coffee, delicious Italian biscotti and house-made antipasto options. You can bring your own wine and have a picnic on the many tables and benches on the estate – just be prepared to share the lawn with more than a few of the resident kangaroos.
During harvest season visitors are welcome to watch how olive oil is made and find out why it is so good for you. All olive oil is pressed and produced at Petra, using only hand-picked olives from the 30-acre large estate.
Petra has nine different varieties of olives that are pressed separately to produce a variety of oils including early and late harvested oils. If you’re used to supermarket olive oil, the taste difference is astounding and definitely worth a try.
Petra Estate Chalets
If you want to stay even longer (and who wouldn’t) Petra Olive Oil Estate has five luxury chalets. Each chalet has panoramic views of the picturesque surroundings and makes for a relaxing stay as well as a great base to explore the southwest.
The chalets are architecturally designed with plenty of attention to detail. Each chalet is fully self-contained and one of the best dog-friendly accommodation options in Yallingup.
The kitchen is well equipped and has all you need to prepare your own meals. Don’t feel like cooking? Don’t fret – purchase one of the gourmet pizzas from the Shed Door. Heat it up on your own BBQ and watch the sunset over the olive groves for a perfect night in.
Petra’s Chalets in Yallingup are superbly located in the heart of the southwest and you’ll find the regions many stunning attractions within easy reach.
Whatever you do though, make sure that you allow plenty of time to hang out at the olive farm, take in the views, watch the kangaroos and listen to the kookaburra’s laugh from the gum trees.
