A weekend getaway down south is one of the best ways to relax, recharge and inhale a chunky dose of fresh country air. And if you’re going with a large group, there’s no better holiday house in Margaret River than at the Cullen Homestead.
The Cullen Wines Homestead, located off Caves Road in the heart of the wine growing region, is the former family home of the Cullen family. One of the regions oldest and most renowned winegrowers.
This Margaret River holiday home comes loaded with sweeping views of the adjacent natural bushland, vineyards and is across the road from Cullen’s biodynamic winery and restaurant.
The house is an ode to Australia and the beautiful Margaret River region, with local granite rock and timber used in its construction. The house has maintained it’s rustic charm but comes with all modern conveniences.
The cosy loungeroom has a fireplace, piano and a great selection of books from the Cullen’s private library.
There are three bedrooms in the main homestead, including two doubles and a twin with two single beds and sleeps up to five guests. Adjacent to the house, the Studio which can be rented in addition to the homestead, has a further three bedrooms and a separate bathroom. Here there are two double rooms and another room with three single beds and sleeps a further seven people.
Tennis anyone?
One of my favourite things about the Cullen homestead is the picturesque tennis court located on the expansive property. Nothing better than a few sets in between sipping on a chilled chardonnay. Ball dog not included.
Things to do
Nothing – or at least as little as possible. Sure there’s the pumping waves and the world-class wineries but the best thing about staying at the Cullen Homestead is to sit on the verandah, have a yarn with your mates, reconnect with your family, chill out in front of the fireplace and have a game of tennis. If you really must leave though, take the short stroll down the driveway and across the road to Cullen’s Winery for an exquisite lunch and sample some of the best wines in Margaret River.
